In a decisive move to quell recent communal tensions between the Konkomba and Dagomba communities in the Zogbie area of the Mion District, the Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA), in collaboration with key stakeholders, has embarked on a comprehensive peace mission to restore calm and foster unity.
The delegation, representing a broad spectrum of leadership including the Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA), Dagbon Forum, Yendi Peace Centre, and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), embarked on a crucial peace mission on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024. Their first stop was at the Mion Palace, where they engaged with the Regent of Mion and local leaders to address the tensions arising from the land dispute and to advocate for peaceful coexistence.
Following this, the delegation proceeded to Jagri-do, where they met with Ubor Npuangnan, the Chief of Jagri-do, and stakeholders to reiterate their message of peace and the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts. The team emphasized the shared history and future of the communities, urging all parties to lay down their grievances and work together toward a peaceful resolution.
To further consolidate these efforts, the delegation visited the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi to brief the Yaa Naa on the outcomes of their peace tour and to seek his continued support in fostering peace within the area. The importance of calm and collaboration was underscored in all discussions.
In a show of commitment to the future of the region, the delegation also visited Yendi Senior High School, Dagbon State Secondary Technical School, and the Health College in Yendi. Here, they spoke to the students, encouraging them to remain calm and focus on their studies as they prepare for their upcoming exams, assuring them that their safety and well-being were a top priority.
“We are deeply thankful for the calm that has returned to the affected areas as of this morning,” said the president of KOYA. “It is our earnest hope that these efforts will pave the way for lasting peace and unity in our communities. We continue to urge all stakeholders to maintain this peace and to work together towards a harmonious future.”
The Konkomba Youth Association expresses its gratitude to all the chiefs, elders, and community members who supported and participated in this peace mission. The association remains committed to working with all parties to ensure that peace and stability are sustained in the region.
Thank you.
